Fall 2025: Event Season & Slow Progress
Does it really surprise anyone that I am late in releasing a newsletter? Right, me either.
Event season is in full swing, and I have been one busy girl. I have appeared at two Book’d & Tatt’d events hosted by @a_brew_story and @northwest_booknerd at the Hardline Collective in Tacoma, Hungry Housewives in Buckley headed by the great Alisa Garate, and Hunky Holiday at Emerald Downs alongside Baley Noal and Lia Duchaine. It’s been lovely to meet and converse with new readers and I have been blessed with many new subscribers because of it! Welcome! I’ve also had the good fortune to connect and network with other local indie authors and entrepreneurs, and I cannot say enough about this community.
Both Wonderland and Lester are available on the shelf, in some places signed, at many local bookshops. With the Christmas holiday right around the corner, I don’t think I need to remind you that a book makes an excellent gift, and you can support your local businesses in the process. Here is a list of local stores where you can purchase my novels:
The Dusty Shelf in Enumclaw https://thedustyshelfbooks.com/
Grit City Books in Tacoma https://www.gritcitybooks.com/
Bundok Books in Puyallup/South Hill https://www.bundokbooks.com/
Page Turner Books in Kent https://hasberts.com/
A Good Book in Sumner https://www.agoodbooksumner.com/
The Lakewood Bookstore in Lakewood https://thelakewoodbookstore.com/
King’s Books in Tacoma https://kingsbookstore.com/
Ford’s Books in Gig Harbor https://fordsbooks.square.site/
A Novel Bookstore in Yelm https://www.yelmsnovelbookstore.com/
Progress has been slow on my third novel, Beartooth. I had hoped to have it ready by October and here we are in mid-November, and I am just over halfway through the second draft. The goal keeps moving. This is partly due to the fact that writing a book is hard and a lot of work, but it’s also because I’ve been spending a lot of time focused on marketing my two completed novels. I would like to have this draft finished before 2025 comes to a close, BUT, and this is a big BUT, it might not happen. Insert shrug emoji here. What I can be sure of is that I have a week off during Thanksgiving and I am planning to spend several long days focused on nothing but my manuscript. Fingers crossed for minimal distractions and excellent focus!
As for updates on my home life, we held a wedding reception on October 4th at McMillin Farm. It was a low-key event, totally our style, with a pumpkin patch and corn maze. Everyone who knows me knows how much I love Halloween, so it was a perfect day. We are currently planning a honeymoon to Belize in the coming months. Now that we are entering into “The Long Dark,” I will be ready to head off to sunny climes when the time comes. What the rest of the year has in store for us remains to be seen, but I anticipate that 2026 will be a big year for us.
Upcoming Events:
November 22nd at GK Sunshine Holiday Market at Graham Kapowsin High School 22100 108th Ave Ct E Graham WA 98339 (alongside Baley Noal and Lia Duchaine) from 10am – 4pm.
November 30th Issaquah Author Event (tentative) from 11am – 4pm, location TBD.
December 6th Jingle & Jam Holiday Market 2025 at Bethel High School Gymnasium 22215 38th Ave E Spanaway WA 98387 from 10am – 2:30pm.
I am waitlisted for one other event in December and looking to schedule more.
I am hopeful by my next newsletter I will be able to announce the completion of my second draft of Beartooth. Until then, happy holidays to everyone. Buy local this year and give back to your local communities and economies. If anything this last year has proven to me with government upheaval and the White River Bridge closure, our communities are our greatest resource and we have the ability to come together to overcome the odds. Thanks to each and every one of you for supporting this humble author in the early stages of what I hope to be a long and fruitful career.
Best,
Kimberly Wheelock
